Doo Dah Parade
Tuesday, July 4th, 2023 - Columbus, OH
Dear Columbus Doo Dah PeopleI’m proud. I’m honored. I was thrilled. I was entertained. Those are just some of my emotions as I look back over July 4th, 2023’s pictures, videos and listen in awe to people talking about what was their favorite entry. The entire parade was so on point! There was silliness and satire, lampooning all types of local and national topics.
Columbus Doo Dah People, your creativity and humor are immense and captivating. You made me laugh until I cried. Which some shrinks might say crying when your laughing is a good thing. I’ll take it any day. Any day that we can continue to laugh at what we say, we know that we have a democracy. Let’s keep it!Thank you for helping me to celebrate our freedom on the of July 4th at the 40th Annual Doo Dah Parade. I wish I could have captured everyone’s smile. You were beautiful!
Beauty sometimes comes at a cost. The cost of a lot of time preparing for the parade, producing the parade, then tearing the pieces and parts apart and putting it all away. There’s a ton of people to thank for that. The Doo Dah Parade does not exist without its volunteers. So let me thank the volunteers who made Doo Dah 2023 happen. Everyone volunteering from the DisOrganizers, The Bands, the Beer Tenders, the Barricades Team, Clean-up and Recycling, The Parade Monitors, The Street Magicians, Band Chauffeur, The Stage Manager & MC, The Media Mouths, The Parade Starters, People who helped hang posters & banners, those who made the posters & banners & T-Shirts, those who sold T-Shirts, and last but not least, my husband, Charlie, for spending countless hours and days without me and instead being stuck at home with the dogs while I was out prepping Dah ’23.Another person to thank is our 2023 Less-Than-Grand Marshal; CD92.9FM’s Morning Jock Brian Phillips. He said that he had a grand old time. I can’t wait to hear his stories. Being the 40th Annual, we invited back all past Less-Than-Grand Marshal to re-don their regalia and ride again in memory of their year. Brave to ride was 2015’s OH MY Gregg DODD!, 2006’s Karen Kasler of The State House News was spotted in the crowd, and 2020’s Grandma Joy & Grandson Brad Ryan, and 2021 Captain Ohio.
Endless thanks go out to the list of extremely generous financial contributors to Doo Dah. To say that I was blown away by their generosity is putting it mildly. Please do look at “Who’s Paid 2023?” on http://www.doodahparade.com/whopaid2023 to see who you can thank when you’re out shopping or eating & drinking.
Those on the paid side of things to thanks; are our food vendors, The City of Columbus Permits, CPD, and CFD Departments, Our Insurance guy, Golfcart guy, and T-Shirt Gal, I’m positive that the 40th Annual Doo Dah Parade was a historical parade. Not just in the year milestone, but because there was a breath of fresh new air breathed into the parade and a bunch of the Oldtimers came out for a gulp. The mixture of the ages of people marching were from 2 months to 92 years old. There were people of all colors and sexes, from all political parties. No matter what category you fell into as a marcher, you had the crowd laughing and smiling. Which is what Doo Dah being is all about. Thank you, dear Columbus Doo Dah People.
